Les Gets is a beautiful village in France’s famous Portes du Soleil area. It is an ideal place to spend your ski weekend. ST ANTON, AUSTRIA
St Anton is not only known for its glitz and glamour but it also has world class skiing facilities. It has real challenges for skiing freaks with a steep drop back to Zura, the challenging powder bowls of the Valluga and some seriously testing lower slopes.
BOROVETS, BULGARIA
If you are operating on a shoe-string budget then Borovets is the ideal place to spend your ski weekend. It has crèches, ski schools for children and kindergartens, free lift passes for kids aged 8-12, folk nights, barbecues and wine tasting and very good skiing facilities.
KRVAVEC, SLOVENIA
Krvavec offers short transfer times and maximum time on the slopes and is thus a preferred ski weekend destination. Snow-making and wide, open, varied terrain will keep most people happy for at least a long weekend.
BANFF, CANADA
The friendly and humble town of Banff in the Canadian Rockies is a clean ski area in the beautiful Banff National Park, where elks can be seen wandering the streets. Luxury is provided in large doses by the resorts there with spa treatments, steaming outdoor pools and hot tubs, and relaxing chill-out lounges.
SEEFELD, AUSTRIA
Seefeld offers cross-country skiing with an impressive 250 kilometres of marked trails including the course designed for the 1976 Olympics and the 1985 world championships. It too offers short transfer time. It is a good spot if you are an amateur.
SELVA VAL GARDENA, ITALY
This Italian paradise has over 98 kilometres of excellent testing trails and ranks high on the list of cross country skiers. There is also guided winter walking in the lush greenery when you are not skiing on the ski weekend. The restaurants offer great local food with of course mouth watering pizzas.
KANDERSTEG, SWITZERLAND
Kandersteg is an ideal place for amateur skiers and a paradise for cross-country skiers with an impressive 60 kilometres of trails and an additional 35 kilometres if you consider the nearby Lauchermalp ski area. They also have a 4.5 km night trail that is illuminated from 6 to 9 on weekdays.
SOLL, AUSTRIA
Soll also offers great opportunity for beginners to learn skiing. It has ski lift pass so that you save money during your ski weekend. The instructors are great and equipment hire charges are affordable too. It also has a large sports centre, squash courts, sleigh rides if you get tired of skiing.
